-2-hydroxyphosphonatoacetato]Abstract: The title compound, [Ni{HO3PCH(OH)CO2}(H2O)2]n, was prepared by a hydrothermal reaction. The octahedral coordination geometry of NiII is made up of one phosphonate O atom, one hydroxyl O atom, two carboxylate O atoms and two water molecules. This architecture is further stabilized by a number of O-H
O hydrogen bonds involving the protonated hydroxyl groups, carboxylate O atoms, a phosphonate O atom and coordinated water molecules.
