Abstract: In the title compound, [Fe(C7H3NO5)Cl(H2O)2]·C12H24O6·2H2O or [Fe(HChel)Cl(H2O)2].(18-crown-6)·2H2O, where H3Chel is 4-hydroxypyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic (chelidamic) acid, the FeIII atom exhibits a distorted octahedral geometry coordinated by two O atoms and one N atom from the tridentate chelidamate ligand, one Cl atom and two water molecules. O-H...O hydrogen bonds from the coordinated water molecules to the O atoms of the crown ether form one-dimensional hydrogen-bonded chains with alternating [Fe(HChel)Cl(H2O)2] and 18-crown-6 units. The solvent water molecules lie between these chains, accepting O-H...O hydrogen bonds from the hydroxyl groups of the chelidamate ligands, and forming O-H...O hydrogen bonds with the noncoordinated O atoms of the carboxylate groups.
