Abstract: In the title molecular salt, C9H9IN3+·ICl2-, the dihedral angle between the aromatic rings in the cation is 14.9 (2)°. The I-Cl bond lengths of the anion are distinctly different, by 0.149 (2) Å. The most significant interaction in the crystal structure is a bifurcated N-H
(N,Cl) hydrogen bond.
