1-Hydroxycyclopentane-1-carboxylic acid

Abstract: The title compound, C₆H₁₀O₃, crystallizes with three independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. In all three molecules, which have similar envelope conformations, the cyclopentane ring is arranged skew to the carboxyl group. Intermolecular O-HO hydrogen bonds link the molecules into two-dimensional layers parallel to the ab plane.
