6-Methoxy-2-[tri(2-pyridyl)methyliminomethyl]phenol

Abstract: The title compound, C₂₄H₂₀N₄O₂ , is an unsymmetrical Schiff base which has potential as a hexadentate ligand. There is a relatively strong O-HN intramolecular hydrogen bond. The X-ray crystallographic results show that, despite the presence of the N₄O₂ group, the title compound does not exhibit a conformation conducive to hexadentate binding. The three pyridine rings show a propeller-like arrangement.
