Abstract: The title compound, [Zr(Cl)2(C21H25N2)(C5H5)], [bis(2,6-dimethylphenyl)nacnac](cp)ZrCl2, where nacnac is the pentane-2,4-diiminate ligand and cp is cyclopentadiene, has pseudo-tetrahedral coordination geometry about the Zr center. The coordination mode of the nacnac ligand is intermediate between
2- and
5-coordination, with both N atoms and two C atoms clearly coordinated to the Zr center. The coordination is best described as an in-plane
1-imine and an
3-enaminato coordination of the nacnac ligand.
