(Z)--5-Bromo-N-tert-butyl-2-methoxyphenylnitrone

Abstract: The title compound, C₁₂H₁₆BrNO₂, was synthesized in 95% yield by condensation of 5-bromo-2-methoxybenzaldehyde and N-tert-butyl-hydroxylamine acetate in the presence of triethylamine as the base and anhydrous magnesium sulfate as the dehydrating agent. The C=N bond leads to a plane containing all atoms of the side chain, excluding the three methyl groups; this plane makes a dihedral angle of 14.44 (3)° with the ring plane.
