3-biphenyl-2,2'-dicarboxylato)dierbium(III)]Abstract: The title rare earth metal coordination polymer, [Er2(C14H8O4)3(H2O)2]n, has been synthesized through a hydrothermal reaction and characterized by thermogravimetric analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The ErIII ions both lie on crystallographic twofold rotation axes. There are one and a half organic ligands in the asymmetric unit. Both Er ions are coordinated by eight O atoms. Whereas one is bonded only to organic ligands, the other is also coordinated by two water molecules.
