Bis(2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthrolinium) hexachloridoplatinate(IV)

Abstract: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, (C₁₄H₁₃N₂)₂[PtCl₆], contains one independent protonated 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthrolinium cation and half of a centrosymmetric [PtCl₆]^2- anion. The Pt ion has an octahedral coordination. Intramolecular N-HCl and N-HN hydrogen bonds help to stabilize the structure.
