Abstract: The centrosymmetric title compound, [Ag₂Cd₂I₆(C₁₀H₈N₂)₄], was synthesized by the reaction of CdI₂, KAgI₂ and 2,2'-bipyridine in dimethylformamide. The crystal structure contains an Ag₂I₆ chain and Cd(2,2'-bipyridine)₂ units; the four 2,2'-bipyridine ligands are positioned at the ends of the molecule and [mu] ₂-iodo bridges link two Cd(2,2'-bipyridine)I₂Ag units. The Cd atom exhibits a distorted octahedral geometry.
