Abstract: The title complex, [Ni(C2H1N9)(C10H8N2)2]·6H2O, was prepared under hydrothermal reaction conditions. The asymmetric unit contains the nickel complex and six solvent water molecules. The NiII ion is coordinated in a distorted octahedral geometry defined by four N atoms from two 2,2'-bipyridine ligands and two N atoms from the 5,5'-iminobis(tetrazolate) (BTA2-) anions. In the crystal structure, an extensive range of O-H
N and O-H
O hydrogen bonds links the complex and the water molecules into a three-dimensional network.
