-[(S)-N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-L-aspartato]]Abstract: The title compound, [Cu(C11H11NO5)(H2O)]n, was obtained by the reaction of Cu(NO3)2 and the homochiral organic ligand (S)-N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-L-aspartic acid (S-H3sasp). The CuII ion has a distorted square-pyramidal geometry and is coordinated by one N atom and three O atoms from the organic ligand and one O atom from a water molecule. The carboxyl O atoms of the ligands bridge the Cu atoms to form an infinite one-dimensional zigzag chain. Intermolecular hydrogen bonds link these chains into a two-dimensional arrangement.
