Abstract: The title compound, [Zn(C17H19FN3O3)2(H2O)]·2H2O or [Zn(pef)2(H2O)]·2H2O, where pef is 1-ethyl-6-fluoro-7-(4-methylpiperazin-4-yl)-4-oxo-1,4-dihydroquinoline-3-carboxylate, was synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. The ZnII atom exhibits a distorted ZnO5 square-pyramidal geometry defined by two bidentate O,O-bonded pef anions in the basal plane and one water molecule in the apical position. A network of O-H
O and O-H
N hydrogen bonds is formed between the ZnII complexes and the uncoordinated water molecules.
