Bis(benzoato-²O,O')(2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline-²N,N')cobalt(II)

Abstract: In the title compound, [Co(C₇H₅O₂)₂(C₁₄H₁₂N₂)], the Co^II ion is located on a twofold rotation axis and is chelated by a 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (dmphen) ligand and two benzoate anions in a distorted octahedral geometry. The crystal packing is stabilized by - interactions between parallel dmphen ligands of neighbouring molecules, with a face-to-face distance of 3.411 (2) Å.
