1,4,8,11-Tetrakis(carboxymethyl)-5,5,7,12,12,14-hexamethyl-4,11-diaza-1,8-diazoniacyclotetradecane dichloride dihydrate

Abstract: The title compound, C₂₄H₄₆N₄O₈²⁺·2Cl^-·2H₂O, was synthesized by the hydrolysis of tetraethyl 2,2',2'',2'''-(5,5,7,12,12,14-hexamethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane-1,4,8,11-tetrayl) tetraacetate in hydrochloric acid solution. The crystal structure of the title compound consists of a 14-membered C₁₀N₄ centrosymmetric cationic macrocycle which interacts with the chloride ions and water molecules of crystallization to give a three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network.
