Bis(2,4,6-trimethylpyridinium) hexachloridoplatinate(IV)

Abstract: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, (C₈H₁₂N)₂[PtCl₆], contains one independent protonated 2,4,6-trimethylpyridinium cation and one half of a centrosymmetric [PtCl₆]^2- anion. The Pt ion has an almost ideal octahedral coordination. In the crystal structure, intramolecular N-HCl and intermolecular C-HCl hydrogen bonds result in the formation of a supramolecular structure.
