Abstract: In the title compound, trans-[PtCl2(C7H9N)2], the PtII atom is located on an inversion center and is coordinated by two 3,4-dimethylpyridine ligands and two chloride ligands, resulting in a typical slightly distorted square-planar geometry. The crystallographic inversion centre forces the value of the C-N-N-C torsion angle to be linear and the 3,4-dimethyl-pyridine ligands to be coplanar.
