2-Methylimidazolium hydrogen maleate

Abstract: Molecules in the title compound, C₄H₇N₂⁺·C₄H₃O₄^-, are linked by intermolecular N-HO hydrogen bonds into one-dimensional chains parallel to [101]. These chains are in turn linked by an R₂²(8) motif, formed by weak C-HO hydrogen bonds, into corrugated sheets running parallel to (10 $\\overline{1}$ ). These sheets are further linked by weak intermolecular C-HO hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network. Intramolecular N-HO and O-HO interactions are also present.
