2-Methyl-3-nitrobenzyl cyanide

Abstract: The title compound, C9H8N2O, was prepared from o-xylene by nitration, oxidation, hydrolysis, reduction, chlorination and cyanation. There are two molecules in the asymmetric unit with a dihedral angle of 20.15 (7)° between their aromatic rings.
