Poly[octa-[mu]-aqua-tetraaquabis([mu]-5-sulfonatobenzene-1,3-dicarboxylato)cobalt(II)tetrasodium]

Abstract: The title compound, [CoNa4(C8H3O7S)2(H2O)12]n, is a three-dimensional coordination polymer bridged by sulfoisophthalate trianions and water molecules. The CoII atom, located on an inversion centre, is coordinated by two carboxylate groups of the sulfoisophthalate trianions and by four water molecules in a distorted CoO6 octahedral geometry. Two independent NaI atoms also have a distorted octahedral coordination geometry formed by water, carboxylate O and sulfonate O atoms. An extensive O-H...O and C-H...O hydrogen-bonding network is present in the crystal structure, as well as weak [pi]-[pi] stacking [centroid-centroid distance = 3.9553 (11) Å].
