Abstract: A new tetradentate unsymmetrical Schiff base, C20H15BrN2O2, has been synthesized from 4-bromo-o-phenylenediamine and salicylaldehyde in refluxing ethanol. The dihedral angles between the two hydroxyphenyl rings and the bromo-o-phenylenediiminatoin group are 68.6 (1) and 8.7 (1)°; the dihedral angle between the two hydroxyphenyl rings is 70.3 (1)°. There are two relatively strong intramolecular of O-H
N hydrogen bonds.
