Cover illustration: Next to orthorhombic [alpha]-SrB4O7, trigonal [beta]-SrB4O7 is the second polymorph of this composition. Whereas the borate frameworkof [alpha]-SrB4O7 is solely composed of corner-sharing BO4 tetrahedra, in [beta]-SrB4O7 it is made up of BO3 triangles and BO4 tetrahedra in a 1:1 ratio, leading to a considerably lower density for the [beta]-polymorph. The Sr2+ cations are located in channels running parallel to [001]. See Vasiliev, Cherepakhin & Zaitsev [Acta Cryst. (2010). E66, i48].

Research communications

The first papers in this new format were published in July 2014. Research communications are longer papers with new text sections designed to help authors bring out the science behind their structure determinations. Figures are included in the published paper and, for the first time in Acta E, individual reports are not limited to single structure determinations. The Research communications format will make Acta E the natural home for structure determinations with interesting science to report.
