Abstract: The title compound, C10H8N4O4·H2O, was obtained by the reaction of 5-hydroxy-2-nitrobenzaldehyde with cyanoacetohydrazide in methanol. The non-H atoms of the hydrazone molecule are approximately coplanar, with a mean deviation from the least-squares plane of 0.056 Å. In the crystal, molecules are linked by N-H
O, O-H
N and O-H
O hydrogen bonds, generating a three-dimensional network.
