Cover illustration: Reported as far back as 1875, red crystals of azophenine have now been fully characterized crystallographically. The non-symmetric molecule features an approximately planar diamino-benzoquinonediimine moiety with the four phenyl rings all inclined to this plane, forming dihedral angles in the range 45-55°.
