standards for structural and crystallization communications - naming of proteins

In naming proteins, the nomenclature recommended by IUPAC should be used.

In cases where there are more than one name in use for an enzyme or other protein, use the nomenclature recommended by IUPAC and, optionally, mention the other name(s) the enzyme is known by. Example: The enzyme IUPAC recommends be named porphobilinogen synthase (EC 4.2.1.24), commonly abbreviated PBGS, is also known as aminolevulinic acid dehydratase and abbreviated ALAD.

For enzyme nomenclature, see the Recommendations of the Nomenclature Committee of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NC-IUBMB), in consultation with the IUPAC-IUBMB Joint Commission on Biochemical Nomenclature (JCBN) on the Nomenclature and Classification of Enzymes by the Reactions they Catalyse.
