> Why did journalexperts.com pick on me? Are they trying to tell me that > my science is not too bad but my English is dreadful? The message is of course "written" by a computer program that is keyed on the country of origin of the contact author, and is applicable both to those who speak poor English and to those resident native English speakers who might work for them. Such nuanced ambiguity is the mark of a fluent English writer, but it doesn't actually make the meaning clear to a reader who is not very well acquainted with the language. So this is hardly a recommendation in favour of American Journal Experts! I am reminded of the editorial process on my own chapters in International Tables G. I cheerfully claim that much of my original draft was clever, witty, urbane, profound and subtle. Nicola's careful editing removed most of these sparkling attributes - but the result probably makes much more sense to the people who read the work, and is therefore a great improvement over the original!
