Experimental diffraction spectrum (dots) from a 3 nm thick Fe film on GaAs (001). The solid line is a fit to the data. The resulting distance profile is given in Fig. 2[link]. qz is the component of the scattering vector perpendicular to the film. In the convention used throughout this article, qz is related to the out-of-plane spacing by qz = 2π/d.
