The time needed to attain 10-4 strain accuracy in reflection geometry based on representative neutron calibration data (acquired at Chalk River) for a 40  mm3 Ni gauge volume, with no background, or a background level equal to that recorded near the surface, compared with the decreasing background response predicted from the calibration data (Fig. 2[link]).
