For all r values, these truncated Legendre polynomial expansions fit the March-Dollase function quite well. To assess this point, the inset displays the relative error between $[{\rm PO}_{hkl}(\rho)]$ and its truncated expansion for different r values. The maximal error is lower than 8% for this range of r values.
