Experimental configurations and instrumentation suitable to detect the very weak XDMR signal are compared. XDMR data collected at both the spin-orbit split Y L-edges and at the Fe K-edge on yttrium iron garnet films are shown to yield unique information regarding the precession dynamics of induced spin and orbital components.
