Design and performance of an ultra-high-vacuum-compatible artificial channel-cut monochromator

Synopsis: The design and performance results of a novel ultra-high-vacuum artificial channel-cut monochromator (ACCM) are presented. An in-vacuum driven sine-bar is employed for the combined pitch motion of the two crystals. The ACCM delivers a highly uniform beam resulting in improved brilliance preservation.

Synopsis: This paper describes a scheme utilizing a set of low-cost and compact Kirkpatrick-Baez mirrors for upgrading the optical system of the Taiwan Inelastic X-ray Scattering beamline at SPring-8 for high-pressure experiments using diamond-anvil cells. The scheme as implemented improves the focus to 13microm x 16microm with transmission of up to 72%.

Synopsis: Synchrotron radiation diffraction data were collected from hydroxyapatite-carbon nanotube bioceramic composites to determine the crystallite size and to measure changes in non-uniform strain. Increasing the amount of carbon nanotubes in the composite has increased the strain in the material, which is undesirable for biomedical implant applications.
