Cover illustration: Detail of `Christ as the Man of Sorrows', also known as the `Norfolk tryptich' (early 15th Century, oil on panel, Museum Boymans-van Beuningen, Rotterdam) (see Krug, Porra, Coan, Wallert, Dik, Coerdt, Bravin, Elyyan, Reischig, Helfen and Baumbach, pages 55-61). Radiography revealed a wooden inlay in the panel, behind which a compartment is suspected. Thus, the altarpiece may contain a hidden relic. |
