Stereoviews of parts of the crystal structures of compounds (IV), (XIV) and (XV): (a) one of the chains of edge-fused R33(18) rings in the 4-methylphenyl compound (IV), which forms sheets parallel to (100) by π-stacking; (b) a sheet parallel to (010) formed by π-stacking of hydrogen-bonded C(6) chains in the 2-methoxyphenyl compound (XIV); (c) one of the chains of edge-fused hydrogen-bonded R44(12) and R44(16) rings in the hydrated 3-methoxyphenyl compound (XV), which themselves form sheets parallel to (001) by π-stacking. For the sake of clarity, the H atoms not involved in the motifs shown have been omitted.
