Main cluster of structures in space group . The two variants of inner cluster shells are a (tetrahedrally distorted) rhombic dodecahedron and a Friauf polyhedron. The second cluster shell is in all cases a tetrahedrally truncated rhombic dodecahedron (truncated at all four- and half of the three-vertices) with atoms not only occupying corners, but also centering all pentagonal faces. The different third-shell clusters are designated with respect to their number of vertices V, types of faces F and the structural subtypes in which they occur. The packing of three-shell clusters in the unit cell is shown using the example of the F7640 polyhedron – it is an f.c.c. packing. |
