Histogram of interatomic distances of atoms in the environment of the atomic sites 4a–4d in Al63.6Ta36.4 (Weber et al., 2009BB77). These are the sites of highest symmetry in the space group ([F\bar{4}3m]) and therefore can bear the clusters of highest symmetry, as well as the biggest clusters without interpenetration. The 4c shell clearly shows the best-separated cluster shells.
