Projection along b of the (9a,b,2c) approximant unit cell of the structure of 1. The purple ribbon enlightens the displacive modulation occurring at the level of the C-(COH)2 groups. The bidirectional arrows act as reference markers, illustrating the modulation effect: it is particularly pronounced in the area of the purple ribbon, while nearly negligible at the termini of the alkyl chains.
