Diagrammatic representation of an alphavirus showing a cross-section of the Sindbis virus structure. The virion has 80 trimeric glycoprotein spikes arranged in a T = 4 surface lattice. The spikes penetrate a lipid bilayer and are anchored in the core protein capsid. The basic N-terminal segments of the SCP are associated with the Sindbis virus genomic RNA.
