Curves for the estimation of the `CTF' or `EM to X-ray' correction. (a) Graph of spherically averaged Fourier amplitudes of the X-ray model (virus plus Fabs), the EM map and the truncated EM map (i.e. the EM map with the mean subtracted and all density below zero set to zero). The h corresponds to a cubic unit cell of 454.4 Å. (b) Curves of the X-ray amplitude divided by the EM amplitude. The scale is arbitrary. Only the data from the truncated EM map gives a reasonable correction. The correction curve is smoothed visually before application to the EM amplitudes. These curves relate to the HRV2–MAb–8F5 complex.
