Reactions catalyzed by the bifunctional enzyme DmpFG. The first reaction, catalyzed by 4-hydroxy-2-ketovalerate aldolase (HOA), results in the formation of acetaldehyde. The second reaction, catalyzed by aldehyde dehydrogenase (acylating) (ADA), uses the product of the aldolase reaction to give the final product, acetyl-coenzyme A.
