The dark solid (nearly) straight line represents the active-source line for this particular reflection. μmax is the maximum convergence angle of the optic and μmin is the minimum convergence angle for this particular reflection. For every μ between μmin and μmax there generally are two points φN(μ) and φX(μ) on the active-source line which satisfy the diffraction condition for this particular reflection, where the subscripts `N' and `X' designate `entrance' and `exit' owing to their similarity to a screenless precession experiment (Xuong & Freer, 1971BB10).
