Heterododecamer predicted for PDB entry 1crx (DNA-recombination synapse). The complex is made of four heterotrimers, each including a DNA fragment bound to bacteriophage recombinase Cre. It is the trimers, rather than the dodecamer, that are considered as the primary units here (Guo et al., 1997  ). See discussion in the text.
