(b) Three different proposed mechanisms of GTP hydrolysis. The first line depicts the hydrolysis mechanism of GTP by attack on the α-phosphate by a H218O molecule. The second line depicts the hydrolysis mechanism of GTP and GDP by attack on the β-phosphate by a H218O molecule. The third line depicts the hydrolysis mechanism of GTP and GDP by attack on the γ-phosphate and the β-phosphate by a H218O> molecule, respectively. The products of each reaction are shown in the right column. The results in (a) indicate that the third mechanism is operational in hydrolysis by YmfB.
