Visualization of confidence maps with additional smoothing. Confidence maps have an almost binary contrast, which can lead to sharp edges when rendered as an isosurface (top), as shown for the map EMD-3061. The appearance can be improved in most visualization programs. For example, in UCSF Chimera, additional surface smoothing can be used to make the appearance less sharp and more cryo-EM map-like (middle, bottom). Additionally, a −log10 transformation of the FDR values can be used to smoothen the gradients for visualization. |
