2O contains two brucinium–benzoate ion pairs and six water molecules in the asymmetric unit. In the crystal structure of (I), corrugated layers of brucinium cations, stabilized by weak C—H
O and C—H
π interactions, are separated by anionic/water sheets. The cationic and the anionic/water layers are linked by O—H
O, C—H
O and N—H
O hydrogen bonds.
