The title compound, C13H14O4, is isolated from the plant Goniothalamus wightii. There are four independent mol­ecules in the asymmetric unit, having similar conformations. Two mol­ecules are linked via O—H...O hydrogen bonds, forming chains along the a axis in the crystal structure.
