Tetraphenylphosphonium Tetrachlorooxovanadate(V)

The title compound, [(C₆H₅)₄P][OVCl₄], consists of tetraphenylphosphonium cations and isolated monomeric tetrachlorooxovanadate(V) anions. In good agreement with the isotypic tetraphenylarsonium salt, local C_4v symmetry was found for the anion with a V-O distance 1.566 (3) and V-Cl 2.2661 (6) Å; the cation shows local S₄ symmetry with a P-C distance 1.794 (2) Å. The Vm atom is placed 0.527 (1) Å above the basal plane of the [OVCl₄] square pyramid.
