The title compound, C₇H₆N₄O.1.5H₂O, is a key intermediate in the synthesis of mesogens, which are derivatives of phenyltetrazole. The tetrazole and phenyl rings are planar to within 0.007 (2) Å with a dihedral angle of 14.8 (1)° between the planes.
