The inclusion of second derivatives of |Fc| in the least-squares refinement of crystal structures is discussed. By using a test case it is shown that convergence is reached in fewer cycles than with usual methods, although the total computing time is about the same. Standard deviations of parameters are a better approximation to the true values.
