The aromatic hydrocarbon antlianthrene (C22H12) has been imaged by high-resolution electron microscopy using minimal-exposure techniques. A simple photographic averaging technique has been applied to give structural information. The radiation sensitivity of this molecule is approximately 0.2 C cm-2 and it is suggested that smaller molecules of comparable sensitivity are capable of being imaged, the limitation being instrumental resolution rather than radiation sensitivity.
