Slow cooling of an equimolar mixture of 4,6,8-trimethylazulene and picric acid (2,4,6-trinitrophenol) in ethanol yields crystals of an 1:1 donor-acceptor complex, C13H14.C6H3N3O7, the structure of which has been determined by X-ray diffraction at 200 K. The donor and acceptor molecules alternate in mixed stacks along the [001] direction. All geometric parameters of the donor as well as the acceptor molecules are comparable to those in isolated 4,6,8-trimethylazulene and picric acid.
